Adopting a Settusfree Setter
The process to adopt a Settusfree (SUF) Setter is really easy:
Fill out the application form;
Our adoption manager will contact you to chat about your application;
A volunteer will carry out a homecheck;
Following successful completion of the homecheck, we will contact you to discuss your chosen dog;
We will discuss travel dates for the dog (if they are travelling from outside of the UK). For our dogs in UK foster, we will arrange for you to speak to our foster family (wherever possible) and discuss travel arrangements;
Before the dog is booked to travel, we will require payment and our Adoption Agreement will be sent to you for signature;
You will then be kept up to date on your dog’s travel preparations and their journey to you.
The cost of an adoption:
The fee to adopt a SUF Setter is £600 (£300 adoption fee and £300 towards travel cost). This is a fixed fee, the full costs are heavily subsidised by SUF. The adoption fee includes costs towards:
Vaccinations,
Microchip,
Tests for Mediterranean diseases,
Flea and worming treatment,
Neutering (where appropriate),
A pet passport, and
Transportation to the UK.
For dogs over 10 years old, the total fee is £300. This is a contribution towards travels costs only, adoption preparation costs are covered by SUF.

Your co-ordinator will be able to inform on the exact travel dates depending where the dog is coming from.
If your dog is already in the UK, things will be quicker and easier to organise.
-
Occasionally, it can happen that the adoption does not work out for various reasons.
If this were to happen, the charity will look for another home for the dog. We will arrange to have the dog taken into foster care if he/she cannot stay in the home and look for a new family.
-
The majority of our dogs come straight from either the pound or kennels. All they will arrive with is a collar and their paperwork.
They won’t know the luxuries of a dog bed, toys or a soft blanket.
We recommend using a harness for dog walks (a gentle introduction will be needed) and a long line. -
We always recommend a very slow introduction, both animals will take time to adjust to each other.
Our behaviourist will be in contact to advise which steps are the best.
-
No, the dog won’t be insured when it arrives home to you, and we strongly suggest insuring your new family member.
-
We welcome families with children. Please get in touch with our adoption manager, using the contact forms, to discuss which of our dogs are suited to living with children.
